How are residents admitted to Menno Home or Menno Hospital?
Because Menno Home and Hospital are government-funded through the Fraser Health Authority, all admissions come through the FHA's Home Health Care office. You can call them in Abbotsford at 604-556-5000 and ask for an assessment. A Case Manager (who is a Registered Nurse) will arrange to visit the client, make an assessment based on physical, mental and social factors, and plan what type of help is required.

What are the options for a client who is not eligible for admission?
If the Case Manager does not recommend facility care, she may arrange for regular help from Home Support workers, or recommend that the client move into a Supportive Housing or Assisted Living facility.

Does MBS offer Supportive Housing?
Yes, we currently have 169 apartments in Menno Pavilion, Menno Terrace West and our new building, Menno Terrace East.

Does MBS offer Assisted Living?
Yes, there are 41 Subsidized Assisted Living apartments in Menno Terrace East.

Who handles admissions to Menno Pavilion and Menno Terrace?
These supportive housing units do not receive government funding; thus all applications come through the MBS Housing office and are subject to criteria established by the Board of Directors. First preference is given to spouses of residents in Menno Home or Menno Hospital; second preference is given to members of the Mennonite Benevolent Society; thirdly, other eligible applicants.

How do I become a member of the Mennonite Benevolent Society?
Membership in MBS is open to the members of any Mennonite congregation in BC upon payment of a $50 one-time fee. See MBS Membership Application page for a downloadable pdf application form - fill it out and mail in.

How can I get more information about MBS Housing?
Check the MBS Housing page on our website, or call our office at 604.851.4004 for more information.

What does it cost to live in Menno Home or Menno Hospital?
Most residents pay a basic daily rate currently at $28.80, while residents with higher incomes pay a higher daily rate according to a sliding scale. These rates are set by the provincial government. For information on the specific rate applicable to you or your loved one, contact Home Health Care. For information on costs for optional "extras," please contact us at our office numbers.

What is the total cost of care per resident?
The cost of facility care at Menno Home and Hospital ranges from approximately $135 to $210 per day, per resident. Government funding makes up the difference between the resident per diem rate and the actual cost of care.

Why does facility care cost so much more than housing?
Long term facility care costs only a fraction of acute care (i.e. general hospital), but still requires the services of many skilled staff to provide the necessary 24-hour care and supervision for residents with complex physical and mental needs. These include RNs, LPNs, resident care attendants, dietitians, cooks, food service workers, housekeeping and laundry aides, chaplains, social workers occupational therapists and administration and clerical staff.

Who owns the property and buildings of Menno Home, Hospital, Pavilion and Terrace?
All of the land and buildings are owned by the Mennonite Benevolent Society. We acknowledge with gratitude the contributions made by various governments, by Society members, and by donors over our past half century of operation.

How are donations used?
General donations to MBS support the ongoing work of the Society in providing housing and care for the elderly. In particular, they help fund new building projects to meet the increasing demand for supportive housing and assisted living. Designated donations to specific MBS facilities (e.g. Menno Home or Hospital) can be directed to extra furnishings, equipment and services that increase the quality of life for our residents. The Mennonite Benevolent Society is a registered charitable organization, and all donors are issued with tax-deductible receipt. Please contact us for more information.
