In December of 1952, a group of Mennonite leaders from Vancouver and the Fraser Valley gathered to explore the possibilities of constructing a senior citizens home, to care for the frail and elderly within the congregations.
At this first meeting the group agreed to:
- search for a suitable building or property
- draw up building plans
- establish a constitution and by-laws
- inquire as to necessary procedures for registering this new society, and search for house parents.
From this time forward, new construction and many expansions and renovations have been completed to form the current campus.
The history of the Mennonite Benevolent Society has been well documented in both the 25th Anniversary Book - 'The Miracle on Marshall Road' and the 50th Anniversary book - 'Encompassed by Compassion'.
